Is Few and Far Australia’s best gifts and homewares store?

The store, tucked away in the town of Berry in rural New South Wales, has just been selected as one of the top six in the world in the annual IHA Global Innovation Awards (GIA) programme.

Normally, this would have involved a live presentation at a gala dinner in Chicago, but due to the travel restrictions made necessary by the Covid-19 outbreak, the actual ceremony was cancelled.

But that makes the achievement of Few and Far’s founders Tara and Danny Solberg no less impressive: Their store was chosen from a short list of 32 finalists drawn from 31 countries around the world.

Few and Far is known for its curated collection of handcrafted, one-of-a-kind and unique product

ranges. It is a collection of old and new and includes antiques hand picked from around the world.

As designers, the Solbergs used to travel the world every year and dreamed of one day bringing home everything they saw that caught their eye.

“We had big dreams of creating a magical space full of wonder and curiosity and set out to search the globe for unique and interesting pieces, each with its own special story to tell,” the couple told the organisers of this year’s GIA awards.

“We are passionate about interiors and products with soul and we strive to present a product range that is both aspirational and affordable.”

The awards are usually announced at The Inspired Home Show, held annually at Chicago’s giant McCormick Place exhibition centre. A judging panel selects what they consider the world’s most innovative and creative home and housewares retailers.

The GIA program was created by the IHA and The Inspired Home Show (formerly the

International Home + Housewares Show) to foster innovation and excellence in home and housewares retailing throughout the world. In the 10 years it has been running, more than 460 GIA retail award winners have been selected from 48 countries.

So given that history, it’s fair to say that Few and Far has to be Australia’s best gifts and homewares store - at least in the eyes of international experts!
